Dyson Big Ball Multi Floor 2: Design and weight

Probably the most unique feature of the Dyson Big Ball Multi Floor 2 is its self-righting technology. This cylinder vacuum cleaner will automatically pick itself up when it’s been knocked over, which is a useful addition. No more stopping mid-clean to pick your machine back up if it falls down, meaning that you don’t have to worry about straining your back.

Another useful feature of the Big Ball Multi Floor 2 is its rotating wand handle. This is especially useful for awkward cleaning tasks in hard to reach places, as the wand handle rotates in three directions, allowing 360 degree articulation for greater control. This allows you to clean both up high and in tight and awkward spaces with ease. It’s also great for cleaning the stairs thoroughly when paired with the extension tubes.

As a cylinder vacuum it shouldn’t come as a big surprise that the Dyson Big Ball Multi Floor 2 is rather on the heavy side, weighing in at 7.5kg. That’s significantly heavier than the likes of Dyson’s cordless range such as the Dyson v11, but the same weight as the Big Ball Animal 2, another cylinder vacuum from Dyson. Although it’s not light, the Big Ball Multi Floor 2 rides on a ball – a similarity it shares with the Dyson Small Ball Allergy and Dyson Ball Animal 2 – which itself feels light to pull, meaning that you can move effortlessly on carpets and hard floors with no awkward moves. It just takes a quick turn of the wrist to move this vacuum around obstacles in your home.

As well as being quite heavy, the Big Ball Multi Floor 2 is also fairly bulky. This won’t be an issue if you’ve got plenty of space, but might become on if you don’t have anywhere out of the way to store it.

Dyson Big Ball Multi Floor 2: Performance

The Dyson Big Ball Multi Floor 2 utilises a clever Pneumatic cleaner head that has its own surface recognition sensor. Whilst some vacuum cleaners require you to change the cleaner head when cleaning a different type of surface, the Big Ball Multi Floor 2’s Pneumatic cleaner head automatically raises and lowers to seal in maximum suction power across all floor types, including carpets, rugs, hard floors, laminate, tiled floors, stairs and upholstery.

With suction power of 170aw, the Big Ball Multi Floor 2 has no issue picking up dirt from any floor types, in part thanks to the flexible cleaner head. The machine also utilises radial cycling technology, where two tiers of 14 compact cyclones generate high centrifugal forces to capture microscopic dust and allergens from your home and trap them in the bin. This means the Big Ball Multi Floor 2 is not just powerful, but very efficient too.

Despite its power, the Dyson Big Ball Multi Floor 2 is surprisingly quiet. At 25% quieter than its predecessors, it has been acoustically re-engineered by Dyson to reduce noise and improve sound quality for deep cleaning with less noise. So it shouldn’t be a problem whatever time of day you want to do your hoovering.

The Dyson Big Ball Multi Floor 2 is a corded vacuum cleaner, so you will have to plug it in to make use of it. However, it’s got a 6.66m long power cord, which should give you plenty of reach to move from room to room without needing to stop and change the power socket. Reaching those hard to reach or low down areas under beds and sofas is also not a problem with this vacuum, thanks to its maximum reach of 10.5m.

Dyson Big Ball Multi Floor 2: Capacity and filtration

The Dyson Big Ball Multi Floor 2 is a bagless cylinder vacuum cleaner. This in itself is a definite plus point, as you don’t need to worry about running out of replacement bags or spending money on ordering new ones. Its capacity of 1.5l is pretty large, meaning you shouldn’t need to empty the bin too often. However, it’s worth highlighting that you do get a larger 1.8l capacity with another cylinder vacuum from Dyson, the Big Ball Animal 2.

When it does come to emptying the bin, it’s easy and hygienic. The bin itself is transparent, which allows you to see the dust and dirt filling up so you know when you do need to empty it. There’s a simple one click button that – when clicked – drives out trapped dirt without you needing to get your hands dirty.

The Big Ball Multi Floor 2 gives you efficient whole machine filtration and is ideal for allergy sufferers and pet owners alike. The lifetime filter is washable and vacuum-sealed within the machine, capturing microscopic dust, particles and allergens, meaning that you can keep you home clean and safe.

Dyson Big Ball Multi Floor 2: Accessories

The Dyson Big Ball Multi Floor 2 comes with some additional tools that help to tackle those fiddly cleaning jobs. Usefully, these accessories are quick-release tools which means that you can quickly attach a new tool to the hose to suit your needs in just the push of a button.

For stair cleaning, there’s a specific stair tool which has velour strips to pick up hair, fluff and dirt from stairs with no fuss. There’s a combination tool too, which offers two tools in one, a brush and wide nozzle. This allows you to simply switch between cleaning tasks for any surface. It’s great for cleaning dust, cobwebs and crumbs in tight spaces, crevices and up high.

What the Big Ball Multi Floor 2 doesn’t have is a specific pet tool. If you have pets in your home, you may be better off with the Dyson Big Ball Animal 2, which has its own quick-release tangle-free turbine tool, which is great at picking up stubborn pet hair.

Dyson Big Ball Multi Floor 2: Verdict

The Dyson Big Ball Multi Floor 2 is a good option if you’re looking for a powerful cylinder vacuum cleaner. As with most Dyson vacuums, it provides a strong pickup across all floor types and has a decent-sized bin so you won’t need to change it all the time. Its main standouts though are its clever self-righting technology and its flexible cleaner head, which adjusts itself to the cleaning surface. The articulated wand handle is also a useful feature and makes the vacuum versatile for all sorts of cleaning jobs.

If you’re looking for a light vacuum cleaner, then this cylinder vacuum would not be a good option. It should be straightforward to glide around the home due to running on ball technology, but it’s heavier than many of the latest vacuums. It’s also corded, so has to be plugged in at all times when you want to use it. If you have pets and want a vacuum that will remove pet hair, you might be better off looking at the Big Ball Animal 2, which has its own pet tool, unlike the Multi Floor 2.

Overall, there’s a lot going for the Dyson Big Ball Multi Floor 2. If you want a reliable vacuum that’s strong across all floor types, this Dyson won’t let you down.
